Rare 1994 CD-only third volume on Incus with 1991 recordings by the pool of acclaimed free improvising musicians led by Derek Bailey and featuring John Zorn, Pat Thomas, Buckethead, Paul Lovens and Alexander Balanescu.

condition (dic/cover): NM / NM

Derek Bailey wrote the liner notes for this third volume, issued by Incus in 1994, which covers the Friday and Saturday of Company Week 1991. John Zorn is on six of its nine tracks: a two-part duo with the French trombonist Yves Robert, a three-part quintet with Bailey, Robert, the violinist Alexander Balanescu and the singer Vanessa Mackness, and an eleven-minute quartet with Robert, Paul Rogers on bass and Paul Lovens on percussion.

The disc ends with BK/DB, twelve and a half minutes of two guitars: Bailey and Buckethead, then a masked Californian in his early twenties. Before that, Mackness and Balanescu join Lovens and Pat Thomas in VM/AB/PL/PT, and Thomas and Rogers meet Buckethead in a trio.

Release notes

Company Week is a celebration of freely improvised music and in 1991 musicians from the USA, Germany, France and Britain came together for five days improvising, most of them meeting for the first time. This series of three discs reflects the music developed over this period. Volume 3 from the final two days (Friday and Saturday). The titles are derived from the initials of the musicians. © & ℗ 1994 Compatible Recording & Publishing Ltd. made in England
