Bailey's idea for Company Week was to put musicians in a room with people they mostly did not know and see what happened. The middle volume of the 1991 set covers part of Wednesday, all of Thursday and part of Friday, and opens with a fifteen-minute trio of Pat Thomas on piano and electronics, Paul Rogers on double bass and Paul Lovens on percussion.
Derek Bailey himself plays only two tracks, a five-minute duo with the violinist Alexander Balanescu and a trio with Lovens and Thomas. John Zorn appears in two trios, one with Vanessa Mackness and Thomas, the other with Buckethead and Thomas, and BK/YR/VM sets Buckethead's guitar against Yves Robert's trombone and Mackness's voice. Incus, the label Bailey co-founded in 1970 with Evan Parker and Tony Oxley, released all three volumes in 1994.
