Nine years before Guns N' Roses (!) hired him, Buckethead spent five days improvising with Derek Bailey. The occasion was Company Week 1991, the annual gathering Bailey organised under the name Company, and this edition brought together John Zorn on alto saxophone, Yves Robert on trombone, Alexander Balanescu on violin, Pat Thomas on keyboards and electronics, Paul Rogers on bass, Paul Lovens on percussion and the singer Vanessa Mackness.
The first volume draws on the opening two days. Titles are simply the players' initials: AB/VM starts the disc with violin and voice, PT/DB is a duo of Thomas and Bailey, and JZ/BK gives eleven minutes to Zorn and Buckethead's guitar. The largest group here, PL/PR/DB/YR/AB/VM, has six players. Incus issued it in 1994 with the assistance of the British Library National Sound Archive.
