Four drummers, a corps of Basel parade drummers and a fife band share this record. Daniel Humair, Charly Antolini, Pierre Favre and Mani Neumeier, a year before he co-founded Guru Guru, are the jazz kit players; Alfred Sacher and his Tambours and George Mathys's fife group bring the drum and fife tradition of the Basel Fasnacht, which opens the album with the traditional march D'Reemer.
George Gruntz composed the rest and plays piano, with Jimmy Woode on bass, Nathan Davis on saxophone and Franco Ambrosetti on trumpet. The title piece runs thirteen minutes; Sketches For Percussion and Retraite Celeste close side two. Joachim-Ernst Berendt produced it and wrote the notes, and SABA released it in 1967 as Drums And Folklore: From Sticksland With Love.
