* Edition of 150 * A short blast and a fitting coda. Organum Electronics' Fiire is the first - and quite possibly the last - appearance of David Jackman's harsh electronic project on vinyl. Released on Die Stadt in a limited edition of 150 copies on black vinyl, it arrives as a companion piece to the Das Kreuz 7" released under Jackman's own name, the two singles together forming an epilogue to the monumental seven-album CD subscription series that unfolded on the label between 2023 and 2025.

Jackman's career traces one of the most singular and deliberately obscure paths in experimental music. Beginning in the late 1960s as a member of Cornelius Cardew's Scratch Orchestra, he moved through a period of self-released cassettes in tiny editions before establishing the Organum project in the early 1980s - a body of work that has ranged across four decades from corrosive industrial drone to meditative bell and gong pieces, tanpura drones, and the sound of ravens calling across empty fields. In 2019, Organum Electronics emerged as a distinct identity, returning explicitly to the dense electronic textures of the earliest Organum recordings - the crushing, metallic noise that defined releases like In Extremis and the collaborations with The New Blockaders. Five albums on Japan's Siren Records were followed by the ambitious Die Stadt series: seven CDs (including two double albums) of interconnected material recorded between 2019 and 2022, edited by Alan Jones at RMS Studios in South London, with artwork by Jonathan Coleclough.

Fiire continues the project's tradition of deliberately skewed orthography - Quietude, Darcknes, Noughwhere, Scilence, Stilness - and delivers exactly what that lineage promises. The needle hits the groove and the characteristic sound is immediately present: a dense, metallic wall, compressed and near-static, yet threaded with a restless internal turbulence. Where the CD-length works allowed this material to unfold across extended durations, here it is condensed into a few minutes per side, cut short with the abruptness that has always been one of Jackman's most unsettling formal signatures. A concentrated dose of what Organum Electronics does - pure, uncompromising, and over before the ear has fully adjusted.
