Piano and vibraphone, one night in Zurich, no rhythm section and nowhere to hide. By 1979 Chick Corea and Gary Burton had been playing duo for the better part of a decade and had developed something close to a shared nervous system: lines handed back and forth mid-phrase, textures that make you genuinely unsure which instrument you are hearing, and a rhythmic precision that would be unbearable if it were not so obviously enjoyed. Two LPs of it, recorded by ECM at what is arguably the label's technical peak, with every mallet stroke and every damper movement audible.
Japanese ECM pressing, double LP with full gatefold. The most successful duo project the label ever ran, and the live one is the one to have.
