*Comes in a CD-sized papersleeve album replica (gatefold), with obi-strip and insert of notes mostly in Japanese..2024 stock* Wapassou is a highly original band from Strasbourg! Recorded in 1974, keyboardist Freddy Brua and his colleagues' eponymous debut album produced music in the tradition of early albums by Pink Floyd, Amon Düül II, Czar and Ash Ra Tempel. The melodies are haunting and varied. The many contributions of flute, guitar, clarinet and sitar provide an ideal counterpoint to a real rock pulse. The album also features a number of guest stars, including local percussionist Benoît Moerlen.

On subsequent albums, Wapassou asserted its originality: the formula was now based on combinations and constructions of themes by keyboards, violin and guitar. Bach and Wagner seem to be the unavoidable points of reference. ‘Salammbô’ (1977) was inspired by the work of Gustave Flaubert. The haunting moods are developed in repetitive sequences of organ and violin. This gives the music a solemnity, a grave and sombre symphonism. Not to be missed!
