Issue 58 of the Toronto magazine Musicworks, from 1994, the first of two on sound on stage. It covers Nigredo Hotel, the chamber opera by Nic Gotham to a libretto by Ann-Marie MacDonald, the filmmaker Bruce Elder, Joëlle Léandre, René Lussier, Rodney Sharman and recollections of John Cage.
The CD opens with three pieces by Lussier on the daxophone, the bowed wooden blade invented by Hans Reichel, followed by David Rothenberg on clarinet and wind controller, four duets by Léandre and Carlos Zíngaro taped at the Tohu-Bohu festival in Montreal in May 1993, and an excerpt from Nigredo Hotel conducted by Wayne Strongman.
