condition (record/cover): NM / EX (price tag on front) - Pierre Henry dominates the catalog's central section with a presence reflecting his role in history. Messe Pour Le Temps Présent, composed with Michel Colombier, crossed boundaries between avant-garde and pop culture when Maurice Béjart used it for his ballet. Philips releases it on LP, document of a moment when musique concrète danced.
Colombier came from jazz and chanson, worlds Henry rarely frequented. The collaboration worked precisely because of this distance: Colombier brought groove, pulse, something feet could follow. Henry contributed the rest, that capacity to transform any material into something else. "Psyché Rock" became almost a hit, an oxymoron that would have made Pierre Schaeffer wince. The disc preserves a moment when the laboratory and the discotheque briefly inhabited the same space.
