Mid-70's re-issue of two 1950 musique concrète's defining works, seminal and essential, as well as beatuful, to say the least.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM - Dieu is simply "God," a title of breathtaking audacity. Pierre Henry spent decades circling sacred subjects: the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Apocalypse, the Mass. Here he confronts the ultimate abstraction directly, no narrative frame, no liturgical pretext. Just the name, and sounds that might evoke what the name cannot contain.

The Philips release positions this alongside Henry's other major works, suggesting the label understood the composer's ambitions even when they courted grandiosity. Whether Henry achieves the transcendence he seeks remains for each listener to determine. The attempt itself constitutes a kind of faith, belief that electronic means can reach spiritual ends. Not everyone will follow him there. Those who do may find what they came for.
