Original 1968 edition on Philips' silver covers "Prospective 21e Siècle" series of two amazing works from the early 60's, one using the vocalizations of sound poet Francois Dufrêne. Like all Pierre Henry's output, beautiful music and essential record. Green labels.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM Silver foil front, white back sleeve. Green labels. La Noire À Soixante / Granulométrie shifts attention toward rhythm and matter. The "quarter note at sixty" is a metronomic indication, sixty beats per minute, the human pulse at rest. Pierre Henry starts there to build structures that accelerate, decelerate, breathe.

"Granulométrie" comes from geology, the study of grain size in sediments. Henry treats sound as sediment, material to be sifted, screened, classified by texture. The Philips disc documents a composer who thinks music as materials science, physics of the perceptible. What Iannis Xenakis achieved through stochastic mathematics, Henry achieves through tactile intuition.
