Wuppertal, April 1964, one of the concerts from the tour that Charles Mingus took across Europe with the sextet everyone now regards as his finest. Eric Dolphy was three months from death, Jaki Byard was playing stride and free abstraction in the same chorus, Clifford Jordan supplied the tenor and Dannie Richmond held the whole unstable structure together. The pieces run to twenty minutes and beyond. Enja put these tapes out years later and they remain among the best-recorded documents of the band. "Meditations On Integration" alone justifies the record.
German Enja pressing. The 1964 European tour is the peak of the Mingus discography and this is a substantial piece of it.
