Béla Bartók wrote the Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion in 1937 and played its first performance in Basel the following year with his wife Ditta Pásztory. The two percussionists are treated as equal partners, timpani and xylophone often doubling the pianos' lines. Here Robert Casadesus and Gaby Casadesus are joined by Jean-Claude Casadesus and Jean-Pierre Drouet.
The Debussy side has the two late duets: En blanc et noir (1915), three pieces for two pianos written during the war, and the Six épigraphes antiques (1914) for piano four hands, drawn from incidental music for the Chansons de Bilitis. Italian CBS pressing.
