Five avant-garde compositions for solo flute (two with piano) by European and Japanese contemmporary composers spanning from 1948 to 1969 performed by Aurèle Nicolet and released on Trio Records in 1969 (Japanese edition). Never re-issued on either LP or CD. With insert.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM

The Swiss flautist Aurèle Nicolet in a programme of postwar flute music from Europe and Japan. Pierre Boulez's Sonatine for flute and piano, from 1946, packs early serial writing into a single violent movement, and Luciano Berio's Sequenza I (1958), the first of his solo series, makes the flute sound like several overlapping voices.

The Japanese side is represented by Yoritsune Matsudaira's Somaksha (1961) and Kazuo Fukushima's Mei (1962), whose breathy attacks and bent pitches come from the shakuhachi. Jürg Wyttenbach is at the piano in the Boulez and in his own Paraphrase (1968). Japanese edition on Trio Records, with insert.
